More air getting into the engine improves the combustion, reducing the soot amount. It does help while driving thru high lands too, due to the intake pressure increasing.

I have an Isuzu KB-250 bakkie with the 4JA1 non-turbo engine from the factory and have been messing around the idea of turbocharging it by myself.
